Hurricane response workers honored

Hurricane Nate has come and gone. Thanks to first responders we were well prepared for the severe weather conditions here in Mississippi, but those men and women often stay busy long after the storm is over.
That’s why Cheryl’s Steakhouse in Ocean Springs held a special night for first responders, providing free meals for police, firemen, EMTs, and the power linemen who worked tirelessly to restore power across the Gulf Coast.
Now, the popular steakhouse’s owner, Cheryl Moshenrose, is challenging other small businesses to give back to the community as well. “I was out here checking everything for the storm and I just saw them passing by and realized they’d been working for 48 hours fixing things and it just made me realize that I was very lucky and I wanted to give back to my community. As I walked around and talked to people, gave hugs and all that, some of them couldn’t even talk, respond. They would say thank you and I would say no this is for you. Thank you.”
Cheryl’s is located in Ocean Springs at 1306 Bienville Blvd and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
