Humane Society of South Mississippi temporarily closes adoptions

Due to COVID-19 and the newly regulated shelter-in-place order, the Humane Society of South Mississippi has made some major changes.

The adoption, foster, and thrift departments at HSSM are all temporarily closed. All other departments, including pet resources and lost and found, are by appointment only.

If you have a lost pet you can email or call 228-822-3824.

The shelter is still caring for many animals and they need your help with donations. HSSM Development Manager Katie King said, “Due to COVID-19 we have had to postpone or cancel a lot of fundraising events and our adoption off-site events. So, our donations are slowing down and we are still in need of donations to take care of about 100 pets that are still in our care. Now, it is bit more difficult to find the cleaning items and supplies that we need as prices are going up and we are in need of more kennels and pet food to help out the community. So donations are greatly appreciated.”
