Humane Society of South Mississippi drive

As the Humane Society of South Mississippi desperately looks to give their animals to loving homes, one radio DJ is celebrating her birthday by giving back.
107.1 the Monkey’s radio personality Valerie Kattz set a goal of raising $4,500 for the Humane Society’s Chicken Soup fund which provides medical treatment to sick and injured animals at the shelter.
Today, Kattz and her co-host, James Steele, broadcasted live inside Edgewater Mall to collect donations for their cause. “A dog named Gage. He was in a house fire and most of his body was burned. Now a dog like that normally comes into a shelter and the dog would be put down. This shelter, through the Chicken Soup Fund, they treated this dog for over eight months, several thousand dollars’ worth of treatment just to save this dog and now the dog is happy and in a loving home so it basically gives animals another chance.”
The two radio hosts also raised money for Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure which raises money for women with breast cancer and Out of the Darkness Walk which helps with suicide prevention and people dealing with depression.
