Humane Society of South Mississippi Barkloxi King and Queen still to be crowned

Mardi Gras events here on the Coast are looking very different this year. However, the crowning of the 2021 Barkloxi King and Queen will still commence.

Reigning King Huckleberry Foofer and reigning Queen Okra Huckins will be giving up their thrones to the king and queen contestant that collects the most donations for the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

For a chance at one of these titles, you can register your pet at hssm.org. Each registered pet will receive a donation link for the pet’s human to share with family, friends, and on social media.

This would have been the fifth year HSSM and the original Krewe of Biloxi held their pawrade, led by the newly ordained royals. However, due to COVID-19 and the restriction of parades in the City of Biloxi, the parade has been canceled.

HSSM Development Director Katie King says this is usually their biggest event of the year. “So, we are going to share their information and get their picture out there and treat them like the royalty that they are and celebrate them and celebrate Mardi Gras and still have a lot of fun with it. All pets are royalty to us and we know that people love their pets and love to show them off. And it’s just a lot of fun to get their pictures out there and also raise money for a great cause.”

Registration closes Monday, January 18th and the newest Barkloxi royalty will be announced Monday, February 15th on HSSM’s Facebook page.
