Human remains found after structure fire in Gautier

Early Sunday morning, a mobile home in Gautier burned to ashes with someone inside.

Neighbor Mary Syckett tells News 25 she called 911 after waking up to a loud bang and feeling heat from the blaze coming from a trailer home across the street.

Syckett says she’s afraid to fall asleep after seeing her neighbor’s home engulfed in flames, wondering if someone was inside.

After the fire was put out, firefighters found human remains in the rubble.

The body has not been identified and is at the state crime lab for an autopsy and cause of death. Syckett said, “I cried all day yesterday, thinking there’s somebody in there. I’m afraid mine’s going to be the next one. They’re all burning in here and I’m scared to death to go to sleep at night. This cottage window, it’s got smoke inhalation and my friend over here, it burned the back of it. I called them just in time.”

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
