HSSM Clear the Shelters adoption event

This weekend, News 25 teamed up with the Humane Society of South Mississippi for this year’s Clear the Shelters adoption event.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, adopters were able to take home a furry friend for just $25.

Along with a new cuddle buddy, adopters were given a gift bag with treats and toys to enjoy with their pets.

Of the 192 animals available on Saturday, 42 pets found their forever homes. One of those homes was with nine-year-old Jackson Riddey and his family who picked out a dog Jackson hopes to name Shadow. “Well, he was a really cute dog and I really liked him. And we tried like testing him by– so I was just standing and then the person holding the leash just tried walking past me to see what the dog would do. And then he, instead of walking right past me, he jumped right toward me. So I could tell that he really liked me. So I really wanted to get him.”

There are still plenty of loving cats and dogs looking for forever homes. If you’re interested in adopting, you can browse all the adoptable pets at hssm.org.
