Howard Avenue project

Since Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005 there has been a growing effort to revitalize Howard Avenue in downtown Biloxi.
The plan includes reopening Howard Avenue to two way traffic, restoring facades to the look of Old Biloxi, attracting new business, and much more.
This is to encourage new businesses to open their doors on the once booming commercial street. Biloxi City Engineer Christy Lebatard said, “We have a whole lot of work going on in the city right now. The north contract is underway and we just started work on the west contract. We just received bids yesterday on Howard Avenue, to open Howard Avenue from Reynoir to Lameuse to two-way traffic. We are also going to be improving all the way down to Martin Luther King, the rest of Howard Avenue, which is already two-way traffic.”
The city hopes to start the construction within the next three to four months.
