Houston man places $3.5M bet on World Series at Scarlet Pearl

What would you do with $3.5 million? One Houston man knows exactly how he wants to spend that amount of money. Today he is here on the Coast to show us how.

The endless things that one could do with $3.5 million, Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ Mcingvale has it all planned out. “Well, I came here to the Scarlet Pearl Casino and the Draft Kings Sportsbook and made a bet of $3.5 million on the Houston Astros to win the 2019 World Series.”

Better known by his nickname ‘Mattress Mack,’ the Texas mattress mogul owns two furniture stores in Houston. Mattress Mack may be remembered for his efforts during Hurricane Harvey, when he opened his store to anyone seeking refuge following the massive flooding.

Mack enjoys giving back, which sparked this wager. If you ask him what happens if he wins, well, he has that all planned out. “A lot of customers are going to get free mattresses, that’s what we’re going to do. So, it should be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to a great October in Houston and go Astros!”

The $3.5 million bet is registered as the largest sports bet taken in the history of Mississippi. Now, if the Astros win, Mack will be given a payout of $11.2 million.

That’s a lot of scratch and some may be surprised that the DraftKings Sportsbook at the Scarlet Pearl even took that bet.  DraftKings Cofounder Matt Kalish said, “Our first thought was that we want to be involved because this is what we do and you know when I heard the background story as well that there’s this giant furniture promotion and thousands and thousands of people can win free furniture if the Astros win. It’s such a cool story!”

What’s more surprising? Ask Kalish who he’s cheering for! “It’s a big business you know, over the course of years take many, many, many millions of bets and so this is a big one. But I think for us we’re very much behind it, we want to see the Astros win and be a part of that story as well.”
