House Bill Allows Guns in Courthouses

Mississippi citizens with enhanced concealed-carry permits could soon be allowed to bring their guns into courthouses.
This comes shortly after a man was sentenced to life in prison for shooting another man to death outside of a courthouse in Madison County. State Representative Andy Gipson filed House Bill 571 to help clarify what constitutes a courthouse and a courtroom. The bill defines a courthouse as any building in which a court of law is regularly held but that does not included the grassed areas, sidewalks or other areas contained within the boundaries on the land the courthouse is on.
If passed, the legislation would allow a person to carry a gun in the hallways of a courthouse, in offices and in the parking lot.
The House passed the bill 78-42 but it was held on a motion to reconsider, meaning it could come back up for debate before reaching the Senate.
