House Bill 545: Bill to Have Wine Shipped to Residents

Have you ever been out of state, find a good bottle of wine, but then can never have it again? That may change if a bill in the legislature passes to allow wine to be shipped to Mississippi residents.
The bill, filed by Representative Charles Busby of Pascagoula, would allow wine to be sold and shipped directly to residents if they are at least 21-years-old. A direct wine shipper would have to be licensed in the state and pay an annual permit fee. Wine couldn’t be shipped to a dry county.
Getting the bill passed could be an uphill battle though. The Mississippi Department of Revenue, which controls alcohol and wine distribution in the state, doesn’t support the legislation. Similar measures have died in past years.
