Homeless Veteran’s Reintegration Program

The Hancock County Resource Center is a non-profit organization committed to helping homeless veterans find a warm bed to sleep in and a job.
Today, Hancock County Resource Center’s Veterans Employment Coordinator Shane Nixon asked the Biloxi City Council for a partnership to reach even more homeless veterans along the Gulf Coast. According to the Hancock County Resource Center, employing veterans not only helps the vet but also benefits the employer. Businesses can take advantage of new tax credits just for hiring unemployed veterans based on length of employment.
“There was a guy from Gulfport that was homeless and jobless. He applied for the program and now he works for an air condition and heating company and he’s making real good money. A couple of weeks ago, he made over a thousand dollars in one week,” said Nixon.
