Holocaust Memorial Program
“Unto every person there is a name.” That’s tonight’s message that was recited at the Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony in Gulfport.
Members of the community gathered at Congregation Beth Israel to remember the six million lives lost more than 70 years ago. Names were read and six candles were lit, representing the victims of the Nazi genocide.
Milton Grisham, a member of Congregation Beth Israel, tells News 25 many Americans are forgetting about this tragic time in history and says it is important to remember and learn from the past. “Hopefully we’ll learn from history and we’ll learn that you have to be vigilant, you can’t just be quiet. If you see things that are going wrong, stand up.”
During the ceremony, they also spoke of the G.I. Museum in Ocean Springs that’s obtained military uniforms from World War II. If anyone is interested in visiting the museum, they are located at 5796 Ritcher Road.
