Holiday Traffic Roundup

There are a number of ways you can ring in the New Year on the Gulf Coast. As you’re making your holiday plans, make sure you’re safe behind the wheel.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol investigated 250 wrecks and five deaths on state and federal highways during the Christmas holiday period from Wednesday through Sunday. Authorities are using these types of numbers as additional incentive to be extra vigilant about catching anyone drinking or engaging in other dangerous behavior while driving.
Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Benjamin Seibert said, “With that number of 13 DUI’s being a little high, so we’re going to concentrate really hard on drunk driving during the New Year’s holiday. There’s no magic formula. It’s very simple. Wear your seatbelt and drive safely. All we want to do is prevent fatalities and let people be safe. We don’t want to knock on doors during the holidays.”
Highway Patrol will also be developing a game plan for extra patrol when Donald Trump comes to Biloxi on January 2nd.
