Holiday shopping in Downtown Ocean Springs on Small Business Saturday

Before you decide to spend all your money Friday at Big Box stores, think about doing some of your holiday shopping locally at Ocean Springs’ Small Business Saturday.

Ocean Springs kicks off its ‘By Golly, Be Jolly’ holiday campaign with a push to shop small and support local businesses for its Small Business Saturday event this weekend. Many downtown shops and restaurants will be holding special sales, raffles, and surprise discounts throughout the day starting at 10 a.m. Cynthia Dobbs with the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce said, “In Ocean Springs, small business is our business. And no time better than now to support local.”

Charisma in Ocean Springs Owner Brandin Brosh said, “I’m very fortunate to own a business that is in such a tight knit community. Ocean Springs, as you know, has won so many awards. We have a great support system from our community. A great support system from the mayor. And a great chamber of commerce as well, which has exponentially helped the small businesses when it comes to Cruisin’ the Coast and Peter Anderson.”

While COVID-19 has had major impacts on everyone around the world, small business owners have been some of those hardest hit by the effects of the pandemic. “As everyone knows, with COVID this year small business has struggled everywhere in the country. And small business is what gives back to your community. It’s the heartbeat of America. So, it is so important and vital that everybody get out and support your small businesses. Not just this Saturday, but every day.”

In addition to picking up presents for everyone on your gift list, get into the holiday spirit by simply strolling the streets and checking out the festive displays downtown. However, don’t forget your mask. The City of Ocean Springs is requiring all shoppers follow CDC guidelines. “So, this is a fun way to be safe in an outdoor, mostly open-air type of environment to get some of your shopping done and enjoy the holidays.”

In case you need another incentive to shop local, the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce is giving shoppers a chance to win prizes from downtown stores if they bring in $200 worth of receipts from small businesses. “Big box stores are going to survive regardless. Big box stores are going to make their money. They can run the big sales. But small business is what gives back to the community.”
