Historic Boat Gets Renovation

An important piece of Beauvoir history will be shipped up to start repairs tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
The historic boat used to belong to Winnie Davis, daughter of Jefferson Davis. The vessel will finally be fixed up and scheduled for display upon its return at the Maritime and Seafood Museum. Beauvoir curator Dennie Spence tells News 25 about 50 percent of the boat needs to be repaired. The process will take about six months. Florida shipwright Kent Lewis will be restoring the boat for free. “This is just this fantastic boat that has seen so many different branches of Mississippi history. It would be a shame to throw it away. So our hearts and our thanks really go out to Kent Lewis over in Florida for taking on this more than daunting task,” said Spence.
Beauvoir leaders hope to have the boat set up for display sometime in August.[mappress mapid=”2122″]
