Hiring our Heroes job fair
Companies ranging from America’s biggest employers to dozens of small companies gathered at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for a job fair hosted by Hiring our Heroes.
Hiring our Heroes began in March 2011 and has since helped more than one thousand companies hire over 20,000 veterans and military spouses as a result of these hiring fairs.
The event also includes a free Hiring our Heroes employment workshop that features one-on-one mentoring sessions on resume building, job search tools, and interviewing techniques for all job seekers. Hiring our Heroes Southern Regional Associate Ernie Lombardi said, “I think what we have discovered is that men and women who are leaving the military currently, they have an issue trying to translate their military skills into the language that a civilian employer will understand and also it’s a little bit of a caveat and a little bit of a disconnect because sometimes the employers don’t understand the language a military person brings to the table in a resume.”
Lombardi is a Marine Corp veteran and knows the challenges that someone leaving the service can face when searching for a job.
