Highway Patrol prepares for Labor Day

As with any long holiday weekend, you can expect more people on the roads. Mississippi Highway Patrol is gearing up for this Labor Day Weekend.

They plan on stepping up enforcement efforts through Monday. That plan entails extra troopers on the road and multiple safety checkpoints.

Troopers will be looking for distracted and impaired drivers.

So, as always, stay sober or have a designated driver during your holiday fun so everyone can stay safe on the roads. Trooper Craig James said, “Public safety is our top priority and there is going to be so much more traffic on the road than normal. This is the last holiday weekend of summer, so people are going to be trying to get that last holiday in and we want to be out there keeping the motoring public safe.”

Another reminder while you’re on the road this weekend is if you see an emergency vehicle pulled over on the highway you are required to pull over into the left lane and slow down while passing.
