Highway 26 bridge in George County closed due to structural damage

A deadly Tuesday morning crashed forced the closure of the Hwy 26 bridge over the Pascagoula River in George County due to structural issues (MHP Troop K)

GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV) — The Highway 26 bridge at the Pascagoula River in George County is closed to all traffic right now after a deadly crash Tuesday morning caused structural damage to the bridge.

The bridge will remain closed until further notice, and Mississippi Highway Patrol officials tell WXXV one person died in the crash and one person was injured.

Structural engineers with the Mississippi Department of Transportation are expected to inspect the damage and determine when the bridge can safely reopen.
