Lady Greyhounds stave off Gulfport in the waning moments to punch their ticket to the state championship game, courtesy of the 1-0 victory. Ocean Springs midfielder Jackie Dilorenzo said, “Oh, it was crazy. I was really overwhelmed and like my ears rang because we were all screaming and I just really felt the love from my team, they’re so sweet. This group is so amazing. Like last year we also had an amazing group and we only made it to the second round. But this year, this is the farthest I’ve made it cause I’m only a sophomore. And I’m just so excited that we’re going to state.”

Ocean Springs Head Girls Soccer Coach Neil Scott said, “That’s the best thing ever is to see how happy they are when we’re successful. State championships are a goal at Ocean Springs every year and that’s another benefit of getting to coach here is getting an opportunity to reach that goal every year. Now that we’ve reached the state championship we’ve added to our goals, we want to win the state championship.”

The Lady Greyhounds now turn their attention toward their state championship date with Madison Central at 4 p.m. Saturday from Ridgeland High School.
