High-res image of the sun captured by solar telescope
This photo is out of this world– literally! Check it out.
This is a sunspot– a dark area on the sun– taken by what scientists say is the world’s most advanced solar telescope.
The detail in the picture is remarkable and scientists say it’s a good indication of the way this new telescope will help us understand the sun.
Getting a look at sunspots is really important because they help scientists track activity on the surface of the sun.
They call it “space weather”– and it’s important to understand because it can impact the power grid, satellites, GPS, airlines, rockets, and astronauts working in space.
The National Science Foundation’s solar telescope in Hawaii won’t be fully completed until next year.
