Hickerson Denied Bond

A judge denied bond for the Navy seaman accused of stabbing a transgender woman to death.
Twenty-year-old Dwanya Hickerson made his initial court appearance this afternoon before Jackson County Judge T. Larry Wilson.
Judge Wilson denied a court attorney’s request for bond and ordered Hickerson be held at Jackson County Jail on capital murder charges.
Hickerson was arrested Monday for allegedly robbing and killing 25-year-old Dee Whigham in St. Martin on Saturday. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said, “Investigators are still following leads and going through information, things that we have been able to collect as evidence. We’ll continue to keep working with the Navy intelligence, the bureau and officials at Keesler Air Force Base. A lot of work is still to be done. We’ve got crime lab and other things that we’ll be following up on.”
Hickerson is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. His preliminary hearing is set for September 12th.
