Heart Walk at Jones Park

People laced up their shoes and walked three miles to help raise awareness about heart disease in Jones Park Saturday.
The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premier event for raising funds to save lives from heart disease. Heart disease is the country’s number one killer and many times it is completely preventable.
Attendees got some exercise and were also able to take part in hands-only CPR demonstrations and learn about ways to stay heart healthy.
Organizers say they hope people learn something new during the walk to help them lead a healthier lifestyle. Vice President of Development and Operations for AHA Christin LeBoeuf said, “We raised about $400,000 through this year’s Gulf Coast Heart Walk which is fantastic. We will use that money to invest in our community to be healthier. We have many programs from working with the hospitals to working with our policy makers to ensure that we have a healthy culture in South Mississippi.”
According to the American Heart Association, there are more than 85 million Americans living with some form of cardiovascular disease or the after-effects of stroke.
