Hearing For Former MDOC Commissioner

This morning, a hearing began in federal court on evidence of how much the bribes taken by former corrections commissioner Christopher Epps cost Mississippi taxpayers.
That determination will in turn influence how long Epps spends in prison for money laundering and filing false tax returns to the tune of $1.4 million.
Epps’ lawyers say that’s the value that should be used to calculate a sentencing recommendation. Prosecutors want to use $868 million, the value of all the contracts Epps awarded while commissioner.
