Hattiesburg teenager drowns near Ship Island

A tragic day on the water this weekend after a seventeen-year-old Hattiesburg boy drowned in the Mississippi Sound.

It happened early Saturday afternoon after the teenager, Carson Hall, jumped off the boat he was on, landing stomach first in the water about a quarter of a nautical mile north of the west side of Ship Island.

When he didn’t come back up, his friends jumped in the water to try to find him, but were unable to do so. The Coast Guard, DMR, and other rescuers launched a search for Hall, but did not recover his body until Sunday. His death has been ruled an accidental drowning.

Carson was set to play soccer at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College this fall.
