Hattiesburg alum Joe Gray Jr. promoted to Biloxi Shuckers
It’s been a long time coming for Joe Gray Jr. as he finally returns to his home state to play for the Biloxi Shuckers.
In 2018, Gray was drafted in the second round out of Hattiesburg High School where he posted a career batting average of .454 with 155 runs, 146 RBI, 39 doubles, ten triples, and 20 home runs. He was playing at Smokie Harrington Park, home to the deepest center field in the entire country.
Gray led the Tigers to the 5A state title in 2018 and is a former Ole Miss commit.
The adjustment to professional ball didn’t happen right away, but he’s starting to put it all together, hitting 15 bombs with 17 stolen bases in High A last year and this year improving his batting average to .247
As of now, he’s set to play his first game in Biloxi a week from today.
