Harrison County Youth Courts Could be on the Move

The Harrison County Youth Courts are moving on to the next step when it comes to finding a new home.
The youth courts have been eyeing a move that would move them from their current location in Gulfport to the abandoned Harrison County Health Department in Biloxi. For the past week, the courts combed through the building to see if it fits their needs and preliminary findings say it does.
Moving the youth courts to Biloxi in front of the Harrison County Juvenile Detention Center will save the courts hundreds of thousands of dollars by not having to transport juveniles back and forth.
While the building could work, youth court officials tell News 25 there will still need to be a couple of additions. Cindy Alexander with the Harrison County Youth Court said, “Well, in order to move, I have to take everybody with me. I have youth service counselors, Gulf Coast mental health. The building, currently, is not quite big enough. We’re looking at a small piece of property to build another building to possibly house eight. So, if we can get this done with the contract and cut the contract by the transportation, we’re saving money.”
The youth courts will now begin working with county engineers to draw up plans for a court room.
