Harrison County School District Free Summer Meals Program

While summer has not officially started yet, today the Harrison County School District is setting the table for its free summer meals program.

The break from school is widely celebrated by students, but for some, the end of the semester is less exciting because some students rely on school meals throughout the week.

Those meals are still available at Harrison County School District schools through their summer meals program. The program provides free breakfast and lunch from now to July 26th.

You don’t have to be a student with HCSD, all children 18 and under are welcome. They hand out over 100,000 meals over the course of the summer. HCSD Food Service Director Brad Barlow said, “We know that in Harrison County as a whole three out of four families are at or below the poverty line and that is based on our income data that we collect throughout the school year. So, we know that there is a need out there in the community and when mom and dad are working over the summer sometimes those kids will be at home alone or staying with a sibling, things like that so we can provide those free meals.”

Breakfast is from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Locations offering the meals are:

  • Crossroads Elementary
  • D’Iberville Middle
  • Harrison Central Elementary
  • North Gulfport Middle
  • Pineville Elementary
  • Three Rivers Elementary
  • West Harrison High
  • West Wortham Elem. and Middle
  • Woolmarket Elementary
