Harrison County Rental Assistance information session

Through the Cares Act, Harrison County was granted $6 million to distribute to residents for rental assistance.

Open Doors Homeless Coalition is heading up the program and is holding information sessions across the county to help renters with the application process.

The program can pay up to 12 months rent from previous months and three months going forward to renters who have lost their jobs due to COVID or could not work because they were sick.

Other resources will also be provided to help people recover from the pandemic’s economic impact.

Open Doors has already helped 300 families with rent and are on target to serve 1,200. Executive Director Mary Simons said, “We’re doing the very best we can to get out into the community and make sure people know about it so that we can assist people that need the help to get stabilized in their housing after going through the last year that we’ve all been through.”

The next rental assistance information session will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Isaiah Fredericks Community Center in Gulfport.
