Harrison County fire ratings

Some Pass Christian residents could see a fire insurance reduction. Harrison County Fire Services in district 3, station 14 at Henderson Point has now received a rating of six.

Harrison County Fire Marshal Pat Sullivan tells News 25 the station was rated 10 on a scale of one to 10, with one being the best.

According to the Mississippi Ratings Bureau, the fire insurance rating is based on factors such as response time, training, and response distance, Sullivan says the lower the district rating, the less you pay in insurance.

Sullivan says while it shows the fire department is doing what it needs to do to protect people in that area, there is still work to be done to lower the rating even more. “Not every place in Harrison County is a six, so we’re working to try to reduce the rating in the areas that we can reduce. What we’re trying to do now is make sure our staffing, we’ve hired more firefighters and we’d also like to, some of our stations that are not 24 hours, we’d like to increase the coverage to 24 hours.”

Sullivan also says he wants continuous educational training for firefighters and the most up-to-date equipment.
