Harrison County Board of Supervisors meeting
The Harrison County Board of Supervisors met this morning with plenty on the agenda.
Most recently, they put forth their support for the Mississippi Sound Protection Act, which was a topic at the meeting. This protection act would ensure that local and state leaders would have a seat at the table with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers when it comes to decision making regarding the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
The board says this declaration is just another way of ensuring that seat at the table and is also a way to show the importance of our Coast waters. Harrison County PIO Jeff Clark said, “We can’t do enough to protect the Mississippi Sound or the Gulf of Mexico. Because of the effects of the Bonnet Carre Spillway last year, we are talking about the possible collapse of an entire ecosystem. So our tourism depends on it. We have to protect the Gulf of Mexico.”
With that in mind, the board declared 2020 as the ‘year to embrace the Gulf’ and recognize the Gulf of Mexico’s importance to the nation.
