Harrison County Board of Supervisors Accept Budget

Months of deliberating ended today as the Harrison County Board of Supervisors accepted their 2015-2016 budget.
Over the past few weeks, the board has listened to representatives from numerous Coast commissions, including the Harrison County Development Commission and Visit Mississippi Gulf Coast. Both receive funds through the board.
The budget of over $59 million helps fund the office of over 40 elected officials, as well as different offices across the county.
District 5 President Connie Rockco said, “It’s always been a misnomer that Harrison County only took care of roads and their citizens got a break. All the tax dollars that we collect from the people inside the city go to services that are somewhat like Metro government. We have a tax assessor, tax collector. They serve all of the people, inside and outside of the city limits and that’s where the taxes go.”
This year’s total general fund budget is about $200,000 more than last year.
