Harrison County beaches continue to reopen
The reopening of Harrison County beaches is continuing at a rapid pace this week as crews have had a stretch of good weather to work with.
Beachgoers enjoyed the sun and water earlier today at newly-reopened segments of beach between the Legacy Condominiums in Gulfport and Rodenberg Avenue in Biloxi.
Since the closures of beaches in the county last week, a local contractor has worked with the Sand Beach Authority to open up beaches in phases, especially in high traffic areas.
Harrison County Sand Beach Director Chuck Loftis expects another section of beach from Rodenberg to White Avenue to reopen tomorrow and cautions beachgoers to still remain alert while out in the sand. “Stuff is still washing ashore. The contractors still have to make another pass so they’ll make two passes through the area to be sure to pick up everything. Hopefully, just being mindful if you see any debris, just please keep that in mind.”
Loftis expects all county beaches to be reopened before the Fourth of July.
Additionally, workers from the Mississippi Aquarium have collected some driftwood from the debris to be used at the facility.
