Harrison Central students make Valentine’s Day goody bags for seniors

The residents at Summerfield Senior Living of Gulfport are in for a sweet treat this Valentine’s Day.

Harrison Central students in Miss Derouen’s health science class are stuffing around 80 bags full of treats for the assisted living home.

One of the students reached out to Dollar General, who was kind enough to donate a mountain of crossword puzzle books.

Miss Derouen says the kids can add little personal touches like leaving notes in the crossword books.

News 25 asked how this enriches students on the cusp of adulthood. Derouen said, “It just helps to give them the ability to outreach in the community, get out there, kind of get their feet wet before they go off to college and really get into whatever field they choose. But all of our students in this class are hopefully wanting to go into the health care field.”

A small group of students will deliver the goods Monday.
