Harrison Central Softball: Jadyn Burney signs with Chipola College
If there’s ever been a signing day ceremony that looked more like a gender reveal, look no further than Harrison Central’s Jadyn Burney and her surprise softball commitment.
Five shirts on the back drop, but it’s down to the two on the left, Jones College and Chipola College, and the moment of truth: it’s Chipola College.
Burney is the third of five Harrison Central seniors to sign so far and is doing so with the reigning NJCAA Division I national champions located in Marianna, Florida.
Despite losing almost her entire junior season due to COVID-19, Burney was impressive as a sophomore, leading the Red Rebelettes in batting average, on-base percentage, hits and runs.
The lefty lead-off hitter and middle infielder says her dad was the only other person that knew it was going to be the Indians over the Bobcats. “I knew everybody knew I was battling between Jones and Chipola, and I was just like why not make it a little surprise for everybody because everybody else just said where they were going. So, I was just like I’m the last senior, why not make it a little surprise for everybody? I feel like it’s special for me because me not being the biggest person or the strongest person, I’ve got to work 10 times harder than everybody else. So, I just feel like for them to give me a scholarship or them to even have interest in me.”
Choosing Chipola reunites Burney with West Harrison alum and former Mississippi Sound travel ball teammate Marley Sims.
