Harrison Central High basketball players awarded scholarships

Harrison Central men’s basketball player Talvon Robinson and women’s basketball player Breanna Bobinger were both awarded scholarships today during a ceremony held in Harrison Central’s gym.

The scholarship is given not on the basis of what the players do on the court, but instead it is based on what the student-athletes do off the court.

A committee chooses players from each team who meets a minimum grade point average, is a good teammate, and is an active participate in the Harrison Central community.

Bobinger didn’t know she was receiving the scholarship until she arrived at the gym today while Robinson was told during the season that his hard work and perseverance would pay off. “I actually didn’t know until I got here. And I was shocked because I had no idea what was going on. But I’m honored. I feel honored. It’s the only way to explain it,” said Bobinger.

Robinson said, “You know, everybody’s getting in the game and everything, I was just like when is my chance going to come? And everybody had a role and I kept on encouraging my teammates, cheering them on. And I just felt like I couldn’t find that role that I was supposed to play. So I decided I was going to quit. I talked to my mom about it and everything and she was like do what’s best for me. So I went to coach and it was just like something was telling me to quit, but not to quit. But I went on ahead and told him about it. And he told me not to quit, like I got something for you. And so I stayed. I’m blessed that I did stay.”

Robinson will continue his education at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College while Bobinger will be attending Pearl River Community College with a basketball managing scholarship.
