Harrah’s & John Graham of Half Shell Oyster House to Compete in 7th Annual Oyster Cook-Off
Held in partnership with Alabama Gulf Seafood, the Oyster Cook-Off will pit chef against chef in categories including Rockefeller, Gulf Coast Cajun and Raw, all of which will be evaluated by a panel of judges on a point system ranking presentation, flavor, and creativity.
Chefs Razavi and Graham will represent Biloxi in the competition, which is set to take place on Saturday afternoon Nov. 8th. In 2013, Half Shell Oyster House won first place in the Cajun Category. This represents Magnolia House’s first year at the Cook-Off.
“We are happy to have a Biloxi presence at our annual event, and we look forward to sampling how Chefs Razavi and Graham choose to prepare one of the Gulf Coast’s finest treasures – oysters,” said Chris Blankenship, director of Alabama Marine Resources and program administrator for the Alabama Seafood Marketing Commission.
Celebrity chefs/judges on the lineup include Chef Jason Roberts, cookbook author and surfer best known for his appearances on ABC’s The Chew; Food Network stars Martie Duncan, Ippy Aiona, Linkie Marais, Michelle Ragussis and Nikki Martin; Ryan Prewitt of Peche (2014 James Beard Best Chef South; New Orleans, La.); Tyler Williams (Eater’s Chef of the Year); Josh Habiger of Pinewood Social (2014 James Beard Finalist; Nashville, Tenn.); and Pete Blohme of Panini Pete’s Café and Bakeshoppe (Food Network’s “Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives”; Fairhope, Ala.), among others.
Participating chefs and restaurants have the chance to win a total of $20,000 in cash and prizes, including 2015 Hangout Music Festival tickets, Big Green Eggs and free entries into the 2015 Oyster Cook-Off. Attendees will also have the chance to declare their favorite for the AL.com People’s Choice award.
Oyster Cook-Off weekend festivities will begin on Friday, Nov. 7th at 6 p.m. with the debut of the Oyster Cook-Off Craft Beer Festival presented by AL.com. Advance tickets (just $25 at hangoutcookoff.com) include beer from all participating breweries and great live music.
Over 60 plus beers from more than 25 breweries will be featured.
Saturday’s Cook-Off will feature live music, family activities and delicious Alabama Gulf oysters prepared by chefs from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. Tasting tickets will be available for purchase to sample the oysters, beer, wine, moonshine, and champagne. Admission for Saturday’s Cook-Off is free to the public.
This year’s Oyster Cook-off includes an extra day of indulgence with Sunday Brunch and Bloody Mary’s on Nov. 9th.
