Hancock house floats return
Back for round two, Hancock House Floats will again be awarding prize money to the Hancock County residence and business with the best purple, gold, and green decorations.
The contest, which began last year to keep the Mardi Gras spirit alive and well despite no big celebrations, is returning.
Co-founders Elise Deano and Kay Kell say with COVID still lingering they thought it would be a good idea to bring the contest back to give those who still may not feel comfortable in large crowds or who may be sick to participate in the carnival season.
A $500 cash prize will be given to the best decorated residence and business, along with numerous door prizes that anyone who registers is eligible to win.
Deano said, “We want everybody to enter. We want to make it very clear like we did last year, literally are you in an apartment and you can only decorate your balcony? Do it! A lot of people living in campers and said well we can’t do this. Yes you can! Because we’re going to drive by, we’re going to go judge all of them, but you’re in the running for the door prize no matter what you do. So we just want to cover the whole county with Mardi Gras spirit.”
To register your house or business fill out the Google form on the Hancock House Floats Facebook page. The deadline to register is February 15th.
While there is no registration fee, a donation to Ruth’s Roots to help feed the needy is encouraged.
