Habitat for Humanity Women build in Gulfport

This morning, a group of women in Gulfport strapped on their hard hats and picked up their hammers to take part in Habitat for Humanity’s annual Women Build campaign.

Habitat for Humanity is promoting the need for affordable housing with the “home is the key” campaign for the month of April.

The National Women Build Week invites women to help make a difference and devote at least one day to help build quality and affordable housing in their local communities for the week leading up to Mother’s Day. Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Specialist Angela Singletary said, “The majority of Habitat home owners do tend to be single moms so this is an opportunity for women to come out and support other women. We have a lot of women that come out that have never touched a power tool or thought that they could do anything like that and then when they leave here they feel very empowered and self-sufficient because they are able to go back and do things that they never thought they could.”

Habitat Mississippi Gulf Coast has expanded their women build event and will build in both Harrison and Jackson counties from April 17th to May 19th.
