Gulfport woman charged in motorcycle hit-and-run in May that left two dead

Gulfport Police on Saturday made a fourth arrest in a hit-and-run case from May that left two people dead.

Kimberly Lauren McDaniel, 31, was arrested Saturday and charged her with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

McDaniel’s bond was set at $500,000.

The arrest stems from an incident on May 29 of this year when Gulfport Police responded to a hit and run at Lorraine Road and Intraplex Parkway.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two victims deceased and a motorcycle in the northbound lane of Lorraine Road.

The victims were identified as Jason Stone and Cassie Bowman.

Officers observed evidence on scene that suggested the motorcycle had been struck from behind just before the intersection of Lorraine Road and Intraplex Parkway, before being dragged northbound on Lorraine Road, along with the two victims. Detectives determined the suspect vehicle, a 2019-2021 Dodge Ram 1500, struck the motorcycle and fled the scene.

On June 8, 2021, Gulfport Police arrested Taylor Marie Habina, 25, and charged her with one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Habina’s bond was set at $75,000.

On June 9, 2021,  Gulfport Police arrested Jason Christopher Smith, 46, and charged him with one count of Accessory After the Fact and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence. Smith’s bond was set at $100,000.

On June 9, 2021, Gulfport Police arrested Josef Randal Murph, 39, and charged him with one count of hindering prosecution. Murph’s bond was set at $10,000.
