Gulfport volleyball’s Sydney Mitchell signs with Southeastern Louisiana
One of the top high school volleyball players in the state is taking her talents to the next level.
Early morning signing for Gulfport’s Sydney Mitchell, who is heading to the division I level with Southeastern Louisiana.
Having transferred from Oak Grove prior to her sophomore season, Mitchell was an instant difference maker for the Lady Admirals, who set a new bar in 2022 as the first team in program history to make it to South State and the first team to ever sweep region play.
The former News 25 Student Athlete of the Week was at the center of it all, tied for fifth in the state in kills with 458.
Certainly cool and calm under pressure at the net, but not quite as much at the signing day table. “Kind of like, oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh, because I was shaking and I was taking a picture with my parents before and it was really blurry, so I was a little nervous. It’s incredible. I literally told myself, if I wasn’t going DI, then I wasn’t playing at all. So, I really took that and ran with it, and I really wanted to see myself in that position to take it to the next level, and I’m glad I can say I did it. And I can tell that we’re going to be best friends.”
Mitchell says she started playing volleyball in the seventh grade and loved everything about her official visit back in the spring.
