Gulfport survives furious NWR comeback in 12-11 win to punch ticket to state

As this year’s 6A baseball playoffs have proven to be true, winning a region title didn’t guarantee anything once the post-season rolled around.

Gulfport finishing as the two-seed in Region 8 and Northwest Rankin as the two-seed in Region 6. They are now the only two teams left standing.

Admirals hosting the Cougars in a winner-take-all game three for the right to go to the state championship next week.

Gulfport finds a way to pull this one out 12-11.

Josh Lee said, “Feels awesome! Hey, you can’t stop the Lee brothers! I’ll tell you that!”

Jacob Palazzo said, “First time since 2017 I want to say, it feels amazing. Can’t really put it into words right now. But we’re just so blessed to be a part of this team.”

Prince Cottonham said, “Feels great! Long time coming! We put a lot of hard work in to be here, man! So grateful. God, that was all God right there!”

Ethan Surowiec said, “Oh, this is an awesome feeling! Earlier in the game, our whole team effort right there. That was huge. We’ve got a lot of heart. We fought through the whole game, so that’s what we’re here for, and that’s why we’re going to the state championships!”

Gulfport draws Lewisburg from the north with game one on Wednesday next week and game two on Friday.
