Gulfport Redevelopment Commission Gains Support from City

Several Gulfport projects may have been stalled or possibly called quits on if it weren’t for a decision made at Gulfport City Council today.
Gulfport City Council met and discussed whether or not the Gulfport Redevelopment Commission has authority to engage in the long-term leases of certain Gulfport properties including Centennial Plaza and the small craft harbor casino proposal.
In a 7 to 0 vote, the City Council decided in favor of the GRC. Steve Hendrix of the GRC tells News 25 even a year of delay puts any project in jeopardy of moving forward. “We’re excited about the decision today because it shows good strong support and the fact it was anonymous shows support across the board for what we are trying to accomplish. We feel very good about it, very positive.”
Hendrix tells News 25 the bill concerning the long-term leases would be dead without the Gulfport City Council’s support.
