Gulfport Premium Outlets are Storm Ready
Gulfport Premium Outlets is now the second facility in Harrison County that is a “Storm Ready” supporter.
“Storm Ready” is a program through the National Weather Service. Buildings that receive the recognition offer methods to warn the public of severe weather, have a preparedness plan and have trained employees on that plan.
South Mississippi is no stranger to severe weather, so being prepared is a top priority. Harrison County Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy said, “Yesterday, we had the torrential rainfall that was downtown Gulfport, Saturday we had it in Saucier. Sunday, we had one of those heavy duty storms in west Biloxi, Orange Grove area. In these dog days of summer, we know that they can happen up.”
A “Storm Ready” supporter does not necessarily mean the building is an emergency shelter, but participates in active engagement in preparing for severe weather.
The Biloxi VA is the other supporter in Harrison County.
