Gulfport Police Officer in Wreck
A Florida man has been arrested after an early morning accident involving a Gulfport police officer who was on duty.
Twenty-eight year-old Zachary Kapua is charged with driving under the influence. Police say his Volkswagen Passat hit another driver’s SUV causing that vehicle to collide with a Gulfport police car that was stopped as an officer was assisting another motorist who had been in an accident.
The police officer and the woman who was driving the SUV were both taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
That section of the interstate was shut down for about an hour as investigators worked the scene of the crashes.
