Gulfport Police make arrest in death of woman found on interstate

Gulfport Police made an arrest in a murder case that began as a pedestrian fatality last month on Interstate 10.

Police arrested 32-year-old Deondrick Mychahl Jones on Thursday night and charged him with first degree murder and motor vehicle theft. He was taken to the Harrison County jail and his bond was set at $1.1 million.

The case began on November 27 when a woman was hit on Interstate 10 just east of the Highway 49 exchange. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Jones left the woman, who had multiple gunshot wounds, dead on the side of the road and fled in the woman’s vehicle.

The victim has been identified, but her named is being withheld pending notification to her family by the Harrison County Coroner’s office.

Gulfport Police said the Madison Police Department, the Capitol Police and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations helped Gulfport with the investigation.
