Gulfport PD holds memorial ceremony for fallen officers

Flags fly at half-staff today outside the Gulfport Police Department to honor officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Officers held a beautiful ceremony with the firing of shotguns and a playing of ‘Taps,’ followed by fellow brothers in blue standing guard in front of the department’s memorial statue.

It’s all part of ‘National Police Week’ to honor the lives of fallen officers and their families.  Detective Jason Ducre said, “With corona we’ve had to change things up a little bit. Normally roads are blocked off, we have tents, refreshments. Today we got in contact with the families so they can come pay respect to their loved ones and it was a smaller ceremony. When you sign up for this profession you know that this is something that could happen, but people still decide to join because it is one of the most noble professions. It’s so rewarding.”

The Gulfport Police Department also extends their respects to fallen Biloxi Police Officer Robert McKeithen.
