Gulfport men found guilty of capital murder
After a grueling five days of trial and two and a half hours of deliberation, two Gulfport men have been found guilty of capital murder stemming from an armed robbery in 2016.
Twenty-seven year-old J’Var Pope and 26-year-old Robert Hart were found guilty of capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of armed robbery as habitual offenders.
Police say Pope and Hart robbed three men at gunpoint then Pope shot all three with a shotgun in April 2016. Two victims survived their wounds, but the third died on scene.
Witnesses testified saying they overheard Pope and Hart planning the robbery.
Hart also had a GPS ankle monitor at the time of the murder, which was traced to the scene of the crime.
Both were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
