Gulfport Mayor’s Youth Council Gives Back to the Community

A group of Gulfport high schoolers are spending their Spring Break giving back to the community.
The Gulfport Mayor’s Youth Council is in its inaugural year and they’re wasting no time helping others out this spring. They have adopted the senior residents of Boyington Health and Rehabilitation Center and have chosen to brighten up their day this Easter season. Tonight, the teenagers from all high schools in the Gulfport and Harrison County School District came together to make very special Easter baskets. Gulfport Mayor’s Youth Council member Bobby Hudson said, “For the elderly in the nursing homes around the Gulf Coast that might not have family come visit them as much. We’re just preparing some little baskets and trinkets and stuff that’s in the basket to give to them and to give back to the community as well. Many of us have relatives in the nursing home, so it was just the soul’s desire to do something like this.”
The Gulfport’s Youth Council provides an outlet for young leaders to discuss and take action on issues important to Gulfport’s youth.
