Gulfport man wanted in murder case arrested in Jasper County

Federal marshals arrested a 20-year-old Gulfport man in Jasper County in connection with a shooting on Monday in Gulfport.

Jacquez Rashad McCormick has been charged with one count of murder in the death of of a man as a result of a shooting at Legacy Inn on Canal Road.

Peterson said in a press release that officers responded to a call about a shooting on Sunday night and found the victim dead from a shot to the chest. Investigators determined that McCormick was responsible, but he fled the scene in an attempt to escape arrest and fled to North Mississippi.

On Monday, investigators obtained a warrant and he was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Jasper County. He is being held at the jail there in lieu of a $1 million bond set by Justice Judge Louise Ladner. He is awaiting transport to the Harrison County jail.
