Gulfport Man in Critical Condition After Trailer Park Fire

A Gulfport man is in critical condition after his trailer caught fire in the Bayou Oaks Trailer Park off Switzer Road Friday morning.

The Gulfport Fire Department received a call around 7 a.m. about a trailer fire with a possible resident trapped inside. When they arrived at the scene, they were able to get the man out and revive him with C.P.R. The man was taken to Memorial Hospital and then air lifted to the burn unit at U.S.A. Medical Center in Mobile.

Chief Michael Beyerstedt of the Gulfport Fire Department says, “The trailer was a total loss. It was half involved in flames when our people arrived, that’s what’s really newsworthy about this story, just those guys got in there so quick and were able to find the person and get him out when there was so much damage involved, you know. It was a great job by those guys getting in and getting after it.”

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
